Pre-Carolina Fiber Festival

The Carolina Fiber Festival is this weekend! I absolutely can’t wait for it. I’m going twice. Once on Friday, likely with my husband, to drop of my competition shawl and get a scope of what looks interesting to purchase and then again on Saturday with a friend and her children. We’ll also probably be meeting up with one of my weaver friends who’s working the demo on Saturday. I’m feeling hopeful that I’ll at least place in the fiber arts competition but if not then it’ll be motivation to find something else to knit for next year, if I want to.

I haven’t really started a new project yet. I’ve been working on my Jelly Roll blanket (with Ash to keep me company).

I did get a new book that I’m pretty excited about. It’s called Custom Socks: Knit to Fit Your Feet by Kate Atherley. It’s a bit mathy (which I don’t tend to feel comfortable with) but I’m enjoying it overall. It goes through how to make socks that fit your measurements exactly. I did start a pair of socks for my husband using the formula from the book and his measurements but I wasn’t satisfied with the start and ended up frogging what I’d done. It was just a pair of toes so not much time lost.

I was inspired to purchase the book after my papa came over and helped put up some small peg boards for me to display some yarn on the wall. I could probably have put them up myself but every time I try to mount something on the wall it comes out crooked so it seemed safer to have the expert help me with it. He took the time to help teach me how to deal with the measurements and such and, seeing how well that had gone, I felt confident buying a more math focused book.

I’m not sure if we’re going to stick with the sock yarn from my stash or buy something new for my husband’s custom fit sock at the fiber festival, probably depends on what we see, but I’m excited about trying out something new and will be excited to share whatever we find.
