New projects coming soon

Starting with the knitting. I cast on a block for the Nectar blanket by Ysolda Teague with the Fuzz Family for Kraeo Uncle Mulberry yarn salvaged from my poncho. I have a good amount of it and I know my yarn store has more in stock so it’s a good candidate for a blanket. I completed the first block then there was a naughty kitty incident and it got a hole in it.

Finished hexagon
Kitty created a hole

Since then I’ve been distracted. I listed some household items on OfferUp and while I was there I saw a sewing machine for sale. So (sew?) this happened.

Yes, this is the same naughty kitty

My mother had a sewing machine growing up but rarely used it so I’m starting from scratch. I have a very crafty friend who makes her own clothes so I’ve asked for a quick lesson and also signed up for a beginner sewing class with the local quilting company. I’ve already made a couple little bags but they were all embarrassingly bad and not worth sharing yet. It’s hard to start a new craft from the beginning and get through the “bad at this” stage but I’m excited to see my skills grow. Hopefully I’ll have a project I’m proud of and willing to share soon. I certainly have already started collecting fabric.

  1. Ah, the great acquisition phase of a new hobby! How fun, can’t wait to see what you make. Love the hexagon too, would never have noticed the hole.

  2. I hope you get back to the blanket because it’s really beautiful (Despite all the “help” with your finished square. Good thing they are cute creatures.) Wishing you lots of fun learning and experimentation with the new-to-you sewing machine!

  3. Too bad about the naughty kitty as that is a beautiful hexigon!! Best wishes on your sewing crafting. I was never able to master it. But it’s nice to have a machine to make knitting project bags and fix seams. My husband thought I’d make drapes for our windows. (hahahaha – who the heck did he think he married??!!) Learned my lesson when I tried to make a Power Ranger costume 30 years ago. I refuse to start quilting since I already have so much yarn stash. I don’t need to start a fabric stash as well. Hmmmm – have to admit making fleece baby blankets would be much quicker than knitting a baby blanket.
