I mentioned previously that I’d be going on my honeymoon soon. Traditionally, when you have a honeymoon you first have to get married. So to honor tradition, and because we wanted to, we got married! We got married at the courthouse on June 1st. I’ve been married and done the traditional wedding thing before so this time around I just wanted to go simple and focus more on the time together afterwards and the celebration with friends.
Before we left for the mountains I packed two ongoing project and a new spinning project I was thinking I might start.
On the trip I found that I wasn’t feeling either knitting project. My sweater is just coming out too large even though I swatched and I’m not sure I’d wear a poncho. So I started the spinning. I didn’t get to do too much spinning with the activities and restaurants we had scheduled but I did get a little start on it.
I felt inspired to spin after visiting Apple Hill Farm for their alpaca shearing. It was a beautiful sunny day (I wore sunscreen and avoided a sunburn) and the farm was filled with energy. The shearing itself was more shocking than I expected. They tied the alpacas down to keep them from moving while being sheared. It makes sense, keeps everyone from getting injured, but it wasn’t what I expected. Some of them did not want to be sheared and made it known by spitting or speaking up.
We built in some buffer time at home with no plans after coming home from the mountains so I’m looking forward to spinning and knitting as much as I want over the next two days. Not on the sweater or poncho though. I’m going to make the Adventurer Cowl by Ambah O’Brien out of some Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy and Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy Noir.
But right now the new husband is asleep on the couch. Not because he’s in trouble or anything! He just likes to stay up late and inevitably falls asleep there. I’ve tried moving him to bed before but he insists that he wants to stay so I’ve let it go and just try to be quiet in the house in the morning. Thank goodness spinning on a spindle is silent. That’s the plan for this morning.

Congratulations! It actually sounds like a really nice, relaxing way to spend your honeymoon. Hope you continue to enjoy your spinning and your time off. 🙂
Thank you!
Congrats!! I just saw your posts. (Sorry I seem to be having problems being able to follow blogs). Just a thought – I’ll be attending my son’s “marriage celebration” in October. They got married, just the 2 of them, 4+ years ago but now have finally decided to have “the party”. I’m looking forward to the celebration. My daughter also did the justice of the peace thing before her “wedding” 14 months later. Is this a thing with you young folks??? I’m just happy for them however they want to marry and then celebrate.
