Knitting and trains

My fiancé and I recently took some time off for vacation. We started Thursday night with a hockey game I’d won tickets to the Hurricane and Oilers game through work. I took my knitting but only managed one row. Not surprisingly, it was cramped in the stadium seats.

Hurricanes kicked butt

We then headed to his hometown of Salisbury, NC. We were only there for three days (one of which was spent in Charlotte) so we didn’t get to explore as much as we would’ve wanted but we had lots of amazing food and got to wander around where he was from. We had an Air BnB in the downtown area. It was a nice little place but on Saturday the brewery across the street had live music. We had gone to Charlotte for an IKEA run so we were pooped and not in the mood for loud music.

I didn’t get as much knitting done as I expected because there was so much go-go-go but I did get up early on Sunday and get a couple rows done.

We did get to visit a yarn store while in Charlotte. I spent way more than I intended to but came away with some beautiful yarn. The owner of Charlotte Yarn helped me find local yarn. It’s hand-dyed and limited edition. The picture doesn’t capture the subtle sparkle. I also picked up a knitters group game that I’m thinking we’ll play at knit night in December.

Our last stop on the way out was the NC Transportation Museum. I work at a railroad adjacent company and have started feel some fascination over trains. They have different modes of transportation at the museum but I focused mainly on the train cars. I especially like the car labeled ACL. It’s also called the Whopper Hopper and I’ve worked with it specifically. It was interesting to see how massive it in in person. Truly is a whopper of a car.

  1. I always take a pair of socks to knit on when I go to the FCC (MLS soccer) games but I don’t get a lot done. I knit at halftime and while waiting for traffic to clear out after the game.
