Tour de fleece begins!

After quite a lot of waffling over it, I decided that I will be participating casually in Tour de Fleece. I have plenty of fiber that needs to be spun up and it’s good to challenge yourself every once in a while. I cleared my bobbins off (and ordered some more Ashford jumbo bobbins) and started spinning something new on July 4th. It’s a beautiful gradient spin from AJemFiberArts.

I’ve already spun through about 4 ounces (the first four colors). The plan is chain ply so that the gradient effect is maintained. I was originally thinking I would have to spin half the fiber then switch bobbins for the second half but, after looking at bobbins, Ashford says the jumbo bobbins can hold up to 8 ounces. Since I’ve got 6 ounces to spin, I’m going to test this out.

I’m a bit daunted by the Tour de Fleece schedule going from Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, July 26. That’s a lot of spinning! But I’m determined to spin through as much as I can. My knitting will be taking a back seat while I focus on spinning for a while. It’ll still come with me to work but I won’t be writing nearly as much knitting content during the tour. Maybe I’ll plan on taking it to knit night to keep some progress going on my Urdr and Theodore Wrap. We’ll see.
