Happy New Year! I ended 2024 by finishing a pair of fingerless mittens. These are prototype mittens. I’m making a friend the exact same pair but wanted to try them out first. I’m pretty pleased with them even though the thumbs came out slightly differently. I think the first time I increased in the wrong place and made kind of a ladder effect but this is why we test things. Now I know what not to do for my friend’s pair.
One of my resolutions for the year is to do more spinning so yesterday while I had the day off I sat down at the wheel and worked on some ongoing yarn from Three Waters Farm called Blueberry Liqueur.
I’ve had a lot of mixed feelings about my wheel this year. To the extent that I even listed it for sale at one point. It’s beautiful and I love it but I don’t use it very much and I want it to be in a home where it gets used. The process of spinning just doesn’t capture me the same way that knitting does. I love the finished yarn but getting there is a bit harder. Is that because it’s just a different process or because I’m still struggling to make yarn that I want to knit with? The only way to find out is to practice and learn. So this year I want to spin more. I’m not going to set a goal for time or amount produced. Just “more” this year.
I had a good year of knitting in 2024. I finished 14 projects and used 5,015 yards of yarn according to Ravelry. Most of my projects were fairly small. The biggest this year was Travel Mode 2.0. I will note that 6 of my projects were purple. I’ll have to branch out in colors a little bit more in 2025. I think some of that was influenced by knitting for baby girls for some friends but it would still be nice to have a greater variety of colors in my knitting world. I’m looking forward to seeing what I (and you!) make this year.

Funny how we gravitate to certain colors. My downfall is autumn colors. Just love yellows, oranges, and browns. Sounds like a great idea to focus on if you enjoy “more” spinning. Then you can decide what to do. My Florida knitting group really jumped on the spinning band wagon last spring (glad I was already up north). Indeed one found she really didn’t enjoy it and would prefer just buying the yarn she wanted.
