Local yarn store day

This past Saturday was local yarn store day. I met up with a friend and we did a miniature yarn crawl to two local shops. We stopped first at Warm ‘n Fuzzy where I got some cotton yarn. I’m planning to knit the Streamline Tank by Alexandra Tavel with it. I probably didn’t need three skeins but it was on sale and I’d rather have leftovers than be scrambling through yarn chicken.

I originally passed on the fancy DellaQ train case but ended up going home and buying it online for pick-up so I’ll be stopping by Warm ‘n Fuzzy again at lunch today. It’s nice to truly have a local yarn store where they know you. They recognize me and know me well enough that I don’t have to give my name at checkout – they know my name to get my account pulled up.

We also stopped by Great Yarns. They’d made a post on Instagram with some beautiful stitch markers that I had to have. I will admit I had some sticker shock but bought them anyway because there was so many people in the tiny shop and I was flustered and rushed. It’s not their fault but I was still a little surprised that 5 stitch markers cost $20. I know they’re semi-precious stones and come from Spain but still.

Expensive but beautiful

I didn’t buy any yarn but my friend did. They had a Sewrella trunk show and the dyer was there to represent her work. She was nice and the yarn was fantastic. I haven’t knit with any Sewrella but I know she’s getting a good reception online. It’s awesome to have a local yarn dyer getting such recognition. Overall, a good shopping day.

The wispy shawl is ending. Thank goodness because it was starting to take ages to get through each row. I timed a single knit row and it took me more then 13 minutes to go all the way through it. That’s a knit row too, I’m much slower at purling. I started casting off last night but I ended up having to stop because it was getting late and I had an evening routine to follow. I’ll finish tonight and look at casting on the streamline tank. I’m looking forward to summer knitting.

Slow work

  1. Oh but those stitch markers are beautiful and will give you much more than $20 worth of joy over their lifetime, I’m sure of it.

I would never take them out of the house for fear of losing them 😁

  2. What a fun LYS day. I agree, 5 for $20 seems high. I’ve gotten into making my own from charms I buy at Michaels or Hobby Lobby since I like seasonal themed stitch markers. I did a stitch marker advent calendar this past year and realized I didn’t want 24 Christmas stitch markers.

    • Seasonal stitch markers is such a fun idea. I’ve done an advent calendar too but found I only ended up liking a couple of the markers I got
