Still haven’t started

I’m not sure what the deal is but I still haven’t started my cotton tank. Is it because it’s a garment? That feels overwhelming and I’m nervous to take that on. I desperately want to have items in my wardrobe that I’ve knit myself but I’m just not sure I’m a garment knitter. I know there’s nothing wrong with that but I can’t wear all the wraps, cowls, hats, and scarves that I knit. My mom complemented a scarf and I was automatically ready to give it away just for it to have somewhere it’ll get worn more frequently than I can cycle through them all.

All that said, I’ve been working on my advent yarn wrap. It’s lovely to have picked it back up again. The yarn is wonderful and it’s fun to slowly watch the colors transition. I’m still in the pinks but we’re going to a dark blue (almost black) by the end.

If you look closely you’ll see that I’m using one of my new stitch markers. Someone commented that I will use them and the shocking price tag will be worth it. They’re absolutely right. I did change out the ring for a small lobster clasp so I can hook it to the yarn rather than having it over the needle. Easy adjustment. I even had one in the right color.

  1. Can relate to being apprehensive to start a project, even if I really want to make it. Means I have to deal with do I really know how to get the fit I want?? So many sweaters with necks that are too big, armholes are too deep, too much ease. Even trying on as I go hasn’t prevented tops that didn’t turn out as I imagined as the weight of the body changes the fit at the armholes.

  2. Lots more details to think about with garments, for sure! I hope you decide to take the plunge tho as it’s equally great to wear a sweater/top/garment piece you’ve made as it is to wear an accessory. I love those colors you’re working with now!

  3. So pleased to see the stitch markers being put into action!

I make a lot of garments, and if they don’t fit right on first try we can unravel and try again. I use a 2 meter cable so I can try things on frequently to minimise the amount of unraveling required.
