Advent count down

We’re getting shockingly close to Christmas and I’m still working on secret knitting for my in-law’s white elephant gift exchange. I need to get a move on and get it done. I was moving fairly quickly through it but made an error and had to rip some back. Since it had mohair it was a challenge and I ended up snapping the yarn. So I’ve restarted. Which is sort of okay because I was feeling like I needed to go up a needle size anyway but does mean I have to push a bit harder to get things done on time.

I’ve been enjoying the advent yarn dyed by my very talented friend. The first half is beautiful and cohesive. I’m thinking of a blanket. She’s mentioned she still has a fair amount of the base yarn so I’ll probably buy some of that out of her stash and use that for my background color.

The second half (which I’ve barely started opening) is very different. Still beautiful! Just belongs to a different color range. This one includes neon and much brighter colors. When I finish opening all of those I’ll post a picture of that collection. I’m not sure if I’m going to try to combine them all yet or do something separate.

I’m still plugging away on my Step by Step Cardigan. I reached the point where it says to switch to ribbing but when I tried it on it was still short in the back so I’ve decided to make it longer than the pattern calls for. In my closet I have a good thrifted sweater that’s somewhat similar so I’m using it as a sort of template for length. I worked on it over DnD with friends the other day.

  1. I love the colorful minis of advent calendars but it does present a problem coming up with how to use them. I don’t use them for striped socks as I don’t want all the ends to weave in. I don’t wear shawls which seems to be the most common use for minis. I see LOTS of striped sweaters in my future.

  2. New here, love the neon neps in your sweater!
I made a mistake in a knitted Christmas gift. It’s in timeout. They’ll get it another time. 😁 and it doesn’t even have mohair.
