The first part of the inspiration for this blogs comes from a fleece I picked up while at the Carolina Fiber Festival in Sanford, North Carolina on April 5th, 2014.
The label tells me this fleece is from an angora goat named Zada, is unwashed, and weighs 3 pounds 10 ounces.
3 pounds. 10 ounces. That didn’t sink in while I was handing over the cash to make this gorgeous fleece mine. 3 pounds. 10 ounces. That’s a ton of fiber! (not literally, a ton would be even worse)
When did it finally sink in? When I realized it has to be washed. All of it. 3 pounds. 10 ounces.
Oops!
This is going to be a long process which, to me, is worth documenting. So this blog will start by following my efforts to create something from this mess of goaty fibers and who knows where it will go from there.
The second inspiration for this blog is simple: I think of myself as a terrible writer.
This is not a good thing considering I’m a teacher who is expected to help support students in their own writing efforts. Don’t worry about my kiddos. Based on their work samples I’ve got time to improve before they need something I can’t help with, but I don’t want to wait until the last minute. So the best course of action is to lead by example and practice.
If you see a spelling, grammar, punctuation, or any other kind of writing error please call me out on it. Be brutal. I want to improve but I can’t do that if I don’t realize I’ve made a mistake. I’ll do my part to edit the post to what I think is perfection before submitting, but if I miss something I want to know.
